Then get in here and help us celebrate the father of perfect graphic novels.

Then we turn our attention to Jordan and discuss the many comics he’s created on HotCakesComics.com. Welcome everyone to a very music inspired episode of Canned Air! We kick the episode off by talking about bands with fictional personas in this week’s Retro Roundtable. Bands like Kiss, The Gorillaz, The Aquabats, and Ghost have all added an element of fiction to their personas that not only proves entertaining, but adds another level of entertainment to any of their shows. See if we name any of your favorites!

Then we are joined by Starset frontman, Dustin Bates to not only talk about Starset and the bands mission, but also discuss The Prox Transmissions, a graphic novel that further expands the galaxy surrounding Starset. The novel, written by Dustin and Marvel's Peter David (Ben Reilly: Scarlett Spider, Spider-Verse) and illustrated by Mirko Colak, SKAN, and others, is immersed in Starset’s galaxy, telling the story of Dr. Stephen Browning who intercepts a secret transmission from space. But because Starset’s world is laced in dystopia and disaster, Dr. Browning finds himself in chaos as the message proves to be a dire warning from the future -- prompting him to seek help from Dr. Aston Wise, as they embark on a quest to discover the meaning of the message with the fate of humanity in their hands. This book hits shelves Sept. 26th so be sure to grab your copy before they’re gone!

After a technical error destroys this week’s episode, we leave you with the audio from a podcast we did with our friends from the Game Fix podcast. In this pod, we go around the table listing fictional characters from across pop culture who might be worthy enough to wield Thor’s hammer, Mjölnir. It was a great time that ended up a great podcast, so get in here and see who may indeed be worthy!

This week we focus our attention on one of most influential, and misunderstood, organizations of the 20th century, Playboy. In this weeks Retro Roundtable, we discuss our memories of the magazine, our desires to visit the Playboy mansion, and that some of us did actually read the articles as well!

We then welcome author Patty Farmer to the show to discuss her new book, Playboy Laughs: The Comedy, Comedians, and Cartoons of Playboy.

Playboy Laughs invites readers onto the sets of the organization’s groundbreaking TV shows, Playboy Penthouse and Playboy After Dark. These popular variety series brought top-tier comedians, impressionists, and monologists―as well as the finest musicians―into people’s homes each week.

Readers will learn how before he ever dreamed of conquering the magazine publishing world―and along the way establish a worldwide brand―Hugh Hefner harbored aspirations of making his mark in the world as a cartoonist.

Playboy Laughs delves into the darker aspects of the time as well, tackling the ways Playboy and its comedy stars helped break down social and racial barriers as well as sexual ones.

Known for her devotion to meticulous research and clear, honest storytelling, Farmer has gained the full cooperation of the Playboy organization―and Hugh Hefner himself―making this not only an entertaining read but a trustworthy history of an under-appreciated aspect of American comic culture.

Be sure to visit Patty-Farmer.com and pick up a copy of Playboy Laughs!

This week we talk all things Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! We start by discussing our favorite Heroes in a Half Shell in this week’s Retro Roundtable. We share how we first discovered the Turtles, the highlights from the movies and shows, and how owning the Technodrome toy back in the day meant you’re a “Rich Kid”.

Then we are honored to welcome co-creator of the Turtles Kevin Eastman to the show! We not only talk TMNT with Kevin, but we also discuss Drawing Blood: The Stories Behind the Stories, his new comic series coming to Kickstarter August 1st.

Drawing Blood is a dark-comic-drama (dramadey?), the story behind the stories, a look inside the twisted life of a professional cartoonist. A roller-coaster of show biz and sex, fame and infamy, controlled substances and uncontrolled artists, genius and goons, this series takes you into the darkest corners of a mad world only talked about in the hotel bars of a Comic Con.

Drawing Blood is co-created by Kevin Eastman and filmmaker/ comic book writer, David Abalone. Don’t miss your chance to back this amazing project. It’s the only way to achieve true TURTLE POWER!
